Training /  Solo - Working down the alley (45 mins)

    • Description:

      In this practice, the player is hitting straight drives into the service box, trying to get as many as possible in that target area - Keep track off how many balls land in the box in a row. 3 minutes each side.

    • Exercise Notes:Players are to start the session looking at the technical aspects of keeping the ball straight; thinking about good rotation through the hips and shoulders, keeping the head still and completing the follow through are good starting points.

    • Description:

      In this exercise, the player is hitting straight drives deep and off the back wall trying to create a rhythmical and controlled practice. 5 minutes each side.

    • Exercise Notes:In this practice, keep the pace of hitting consistent and work on trying to drag the ball in close to the side wall using the racket face and follow through.

    • Description:

      In this practice, players are hitting straight drives to the back of the court, however, players alternate between hitting above and below the service line each shot. 4 minutes per side.

    • Exercise Notes:As an extension from the last exercise, this practice helps develop more control over your straight drives as you have to really consider the height and pace variations required to place the ball where needed.

    • Description:

      In this practice, players hit straight volleys from the service box area, trying to hit the ball back to themselves at a consistent height and pace. 3 minutes on each side.

    • Exercise Notes:Moving onto the volley, again think about the technical points needed to keep the ball on target; thinking about clearing your shoulder, getting the racket above the ball and leading with the edge of the racket are good starting points.

    • Description:

      In this practice the player hits a simple feed to then be able to hit a straight volley drop shot. 4 minutes each side.

    • Exercise Notes:In this exercise, players should work on using the strings to cut the ball in and keep it as close to the front wall as possible.

    • Minutes on exercise:8:00

    • Description:

      In this practice, the player is hitting straight drives into the service box, trying to get as many as possible in that target area - Keep track off how many balls land in the box in a row. 3 minutes per side 

    • Exercise Notes:In the last exercise of the session, revisit the first exercise and try and use all you've practised to see and see if your score has improved from the start!
