Training /  Pairs - Back corner development (50 minutes)

    • Description:

      Both players are continuously hitting rotating drives. Make sure to move back to the T to give your partner space to hit their shot. 4 minutes on each side.

    • Exercise Notes:This exercise serves as a warm up, giving players the chance to find their range on the court and get moving in and out of the back corners of the court.

    • Description:

      Both players are continuously hitting rotating drives in the order of above, above and below the service line. 3 minutes per side.

    • Exercise Notes:As an extension from the last exercise, this practice helps develop more control over your straight drives as you have to really consider the height and pace variations required to place the ball where needed.

    • Description:

      Both players are hitting rotating drives, however they both have the option to hit a straight drop at any time. 4 minutes each side.

    • Exercise Notes:The focus here should be on hitting good quality lengths from the back to force a weak ball that players can punish with an attacking drop shot. Learning to defend quality lengths is highly important, so try using height to dissolve pressure.

    • Description:

      Routine where one players hit a straight drop from the back corner and the other player hits a straight drive from the front. 2 minutes in each position and on both sides.

    • Exercise Notes:In this exercise, players should try to develop their ability to take the ball in short from the back of the court. Combining early racket preparation with quick movement onto the ball will allow you to hit the ball at the top of its bounce, which wi

    • Description:

      Both players can only hit deep into the court, meaning the first bounce of the ball is behind the mid court line, however, you are allowed 3 short shots per rally. Play 2 games to 11.

    • Exercise Notes:In these games, players should be concentrating on dragging the ball deep into the back corners to force a weak return, while also practising defending the back corners and looking for opportunities to punish poor lengths short.
