Undoubtedly, we are all facing some tough times and challenges that ripple through every aspect of our lives. We just wanted to let you know that the SquashSkills team are here to support you in any way that we can and it’s at times like these that communities such as ours can be such a powerful thing. I’m thinking of each one of you – your families, friends, colleagues, coaches, club staff and of course the professionals and organisations that govern our sport.
We are continuing to follow the advice of the government, as a result, the team are now all working remotely to do what we can to limit our contact and impact on society. We’ve been working hard to ensure that we have enough content to see us all through the next few months. In addition, we’ve created some squash specific home drills and workouts and these will be coming soon. They will focus on those aspects of the game that can often get overlooked during the season as well as ensuring you stay sharp, ready to return to the courts! And of course, have a bit of fun and light relief at the same time!
We are also looking at some other ideas for additional regular member content. As part of this, we’ll be arranging video interviews with some famous faces as well as some of those that may not be so well known but are integral to the game of Squash. If you have any requests for what you’d like us to cover, ideas for who you’d like to hear from or general questions that we can answer then let us know.
I also just wanted to give you the heads up that we’ll be releasing the next part of our member-exclusive ‘Origin Series’ with Jonah Barrington next week. It’s a really lovely, informative film and I really hope that you enjoy it. We’ll be in touch with more about that shortly.
Finally, I wanted to let you know about a new initiative that we have been planning for months, the SquashSkills Training Club. The intention for this was to create customised coaching to small groups of 12 people at a time over a 6-week course, via WhatsApp, putting you into direct contact with SquashSkills coaches, Jesse Engelbrecht and Gary Nisbet. Members would get daily feedback and motivation from the coaches using the same programme followed by PSA professional players, importantly helping you to apply effectively the skills you need to improve your game with the support and accountability of your fellow players and coaching team.
We were looking to have 2 groups running at any one time, one led by Jesse focusing on technique and drills and the other led by Gary focusing on fitness and overall performance. Clearly, with the closure of squash courts globally, the first is not going to be practical and the timing is particularly bad. However, we questioned long and hard as to whether we should launch this now and feel like in many ways, this is exactly the time when some people may need that extra support, advice and motivation whilst being stuck at home. Gary has created a programme designed to improve squash fitness without having to step on court, or go to the gym. We believe this will be particularly useful during the months ahead. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, email Gary to pre-register and get priority access as we’ll be releasing more information soon.
If you have any other ideas about ways we can serve you and the wider squash community through these uncertain times ahead, please feel free to drop me a line.
In the meantime, look after yourselves and others. Stay safe and keep in touch, we’re here to help.
